Gloria Kosbie has been helping clients protect their assets for over twenty years, first as an accountant and CPA and now as a Professional Licensed Fiduciary. Back in 1990, she worked with her husband in their CPA firm providing client support, and payroll and bookkeeping services to business clients. After several years she went back to school and received her BS in Accounting from San Diego State University where her outstanding work in accounting earned her membership in Beta Alpha Psi: The National Honors Fraternity for Financial Professionals. Once she became a CPA she expanded her role to provide tax preparation and financial statement preparation services to both business and individual clients.
She transitioned from public accounting to a professional fiduciary in 2007 after seeing that some of her clients were part of a very vulnerable population who may be exploited financially or physically or become wards of the public guardians’ office if they did not have a trusted family member, friend or trusted advisor who could help them manage their assets and well being.
Gloria found that although CPAs often consult and advocate for clients in the areas of tax, accounting and financial management they are not in the position to take on the more pro-active role that is necessary to manage client’s affairs when a client is dealing with some sort of mental or physical disability.
As a professional fiduciary, Gloria steps into the following types of roles:
As a Trustee to carry out the terms of a testamentary, special needs or living trust
As an Executor of an Estate to administer a decedent’s estate
As a Personal Representative of a Probate Estate to a administer a decedent’s estate
As a neutral, third party when a family controversy exists
As a Conservator/Guardian to handle an individual’s estate and/or person
When taking on one of these roles, she takes on a position of trust. Whether she is hired in a court supervised case or privately, she is an advocate for her clients. She assists them in protecting themselves, their property and their wishes for the future beneficiaries of their estates. She acts as an intermediary, working with families, health care providers, financial planners and attorneys to make sure that a client’s interest is being met.
To properly prepare herself to be a fiduciary, Gloria earned her Certificate in Fiduciary Management for Trustees from Cal State Fullerton and was licensed in 2008 as a California Licensed Fiduciary. She is a member of the Professional Fiduciary Association of California, Marin County Estate Planning Council, and the California Society of CPAs.
Gloria joined the Seniors Resource Forum to help educate seniors about the issues that are important to them so that they could have a better quality of life.
